Got this from a very good friend, which I share with you, dear women friends:
Here’s wishing one of the most impressive women that I have met on the occasion of International Women’s Day. I do hope you can take time off from work and pamper yourself. Do enjoy this day, which belongs to you and great women like you.

Happy International Women’s Day to you all–the dear women of my life (my mom, my 3 girls, Caren and the 2 little ‘uns), and to you blog friends, Twitter friends, Facebook friends, Plurk friends, BlogWatch friends, Yahoo group friends, and yes my writers and VAs, and my colleagues (former and present). You know who you are !

Happy IWD to all you, dear mothers, grandmothers, wives, aunts, daughters and friends, a toast to women all over the world, to those who continue to suffer from all forms of discrimination and abuse, and to those deprived of the most basic rights. And this greeting goes to the women of your lives, dear male friends and colleagues.

March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day that celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women–in the past, the present and the future.

In some countries, men honor their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc. wth flowers and small gifts (IWD is now an official holiday in countries like Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam).

In some countries IWD has the status equivalent of Mother’s Day. Children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers–a gesture so touching, “feel good”, and yes symbolic.
And by the way, next year is IWD Global Centenary 1911-2011.
