Sexy Mom has been missing in action for a few days for a lot of reasons. Sorry, my dear Readers, for keeping you in the dark, but guessing was fun, wasn’t it? No, SM has not gone on a holiday abroad (how I wish), nor got un-retired (though there have been lucrative job offers in Nigeria and the Middle East countries, sorry not interested).
Blame SM’s absence on the sweltering summer heat. I have always disliked summer—all because I am not comforable with the HEAT. I would tend to just keep myself holed out in airconditioning comfort (elecrtric bill must have doubled this summer), and as much as possibe, I would not like to leave the house.

Because of the summer heat, the computers at home started acting up, first slowing down, then acting as though they were intoxicated, drowning in liters and liters of alcohol, then burning in heat, I thought they would explode. One by one, the 2 desktops and 2 laptops all went dead! That has affected SM’s writing and research activities, and there were deadlines to either beat or to meet.
What to do? A bright idea came to mind—it was high time to fulfill that Christmas dream that stretched to a February birthday wish. It was time to buy my MacBook—the computer of my dreams. I was adamant that I would not settle for anything less than a MacBook, but when I went to the shops, I realized that I could buy 2 branded laptops for the price of 1 MacBook. I decided in the evening to buy 2 branded laptops (either an HP or a Compaq), 1 for myself and 1 for the kids while the 4 computers were being resurrected back to life.
Next morning, with all kids in tow, and after a ceremonial lunch at Mongkok in SM North, we began to execute the plan. The sales people were explaining this and that—all beyond the understanding of my tecchie challenged brain. They were luring to buy the higher end models. It was good son, JAngelo, was there to explain.
Enough of sales talk, I decided. We went to Ynzal Marketing Corp in Sct. Ralios, QC, the Apple authorized distributor where we got good student discounts for iPods in December. And voila—we got a very good discount for the MacBook! Just that, life was simple, no need to dilly dally, it was not a hard decision. I paid for my MacBook, with an aim to come back in a month’s time for the 2nd MacBook—I hope, I hope, for the kids. With the big discount, it will be only a matter of a few thousand pesos over the budget. Let me complete the enrollment of the 6 kids first, then buy their uniforms, books, supplies (my, the list is endless, the expenses non-stop). Whatever remains from the budget might cover the cost of another MacBook, or a branded laptop.
After another alibi to eat outside ceremonial dinner at The Old Spaghetti House in Tomas Morato, we headed for home, happy. But the story did not end there—I realized, though I was prepared for it—that switching from a PC to a MacBook was not easy. It would take some time, to master the keys, the short cuts, the commands. But I do not mind at all. I am prepared to learn.
Why a MacBook, you might ask? for a lot of reasons: (i) simply because it is a MacBook. It’s like watching Spiderman 3 , and liking it simply because it is a Spidey movie; (ii) oh, it’s sleek and sexy, I am tempted to call it Sexy Mac; (iii) it’s smarter and faster; (iv) resolution is perfect; (v) its integrated camera is superb; (vi) it just makes me happy to own it—I do not even need to know its specs, and for so many other reasons. I even had it blessed in church.
And it took me a day (at UCC in Rockwell with BA and Vince), another day (at Gloria Jeans in Mega Mall), then another day (pestering J Angelo and BA), going places with my Sexy Mac…fiddling with the keys, the commands and all. I had to revert back to the remaining dying laptop for my writing and research work. I was not able to write posts for my blog, bloghopping has been infrequent, I could not even memorize the commands.
My husband compared me to a Nokia user shifting to a complicated Siemens phone. It’s ok, I said, me and my Sexy Mac will be solid partners in my writing career. Now I need a mouse—a Mac mouse costs P3,500—I will buy one maybe tomorrow. I will not buy a generic mouse for my Sexy Mac, it would be like driving a BMW with a Toyota steering wheel.
As I and my Sexy Mac get to know each other, as we go through the pains of perfecting our trade, I ask you dear Readers, for your understanding. Will you forgive me for missing in action for a few days? As I wrote earlier, even though I was away, you were in my mind and in heart all the time.

I have mine for almost a year now. It’s so sexy talaga. We should meet up sometime with our sexy macbook . but Katipunan is so scary these days. Haay.
sexy mom: our sexy macs should meet—for so many reasons. yes, i heard those scary stories, and i would not like to lose our immaculate while sexy macs to those dark forces of evil.

hi sexy mom! whoa, i knew all along you were cooking up something interesting. congrats for the MacBook (and i am drooling right now), it’s a happy feeling to spoil ourselves a bit of luxury right? we deserve it anyway. and what a coincidence, i also bought myself a laptop last saturday, it’s not as top of the line like yours, connie’s and noemi’s, but i love it, it’ll serve just my purpose—writing and journaling. at least now, i don’t have to battle with Hubby as to using the desktop PC late in the night.
advance happy mothers day to you. can’t wait to finally see you in our Mommy Lunch.
sexy mom: i heard an amusing remark—that macbooks are not really that useful, and that they are useful only for bragging rights. i dare say not, i now see its functionality, though of course, it’s a feel good thing also. happy advanced mother’s day, too. i can’t wait for the PMN mommy lunch, and meet you and the other moms in person.

Isn’t it terrible though when you’re not connected?
I wanted one and the husband just said, “you’re havin’ a laugh…” in other words, in my dreams…
Congrats on your new Sexy Mac
I’m dreading the day when I have to fight over one PC, as my 5 year old boy is getting the hang of it now…
pauline // May 10, 2007 at 11:40 pm
congrats, tita! i know for sure that you’re enjoying your macbook
it’s such a great toy to have, and the photo booth is just perfect! haha windows will be a thing of the past now. as they say, once you go mac, you’ll never go back!
advanced happy mother’s day!
sexy mom: thanks, Pauline. Photo booth rocks! i guess you are right—once you go mac, you’ll never go back, nice rhyme!

Whoah…you got a Mac! Definitely one of the things in my wishlist. One good thing about Macs is it is very easy to use compared to Windows. And you’re right, a Mac is a Mac…
sexy mom: A Mac is a Mac is a Mac…
rHo // May 11, 2007 at 12:05 am
yaaay… u got the Mac na!! congrats! congrats! it’s okay ate! sa una lang yan mahirap pero pag tumagal na naku, baka hindi mo na bitawan yang Mac mo! hehehe!

Toe // May 11, 2007 at 12:08 am
There’s a mac distributor in Scout Rallos???? Gosh… I live there and I never knew
SM, for multi-media, Mac is the best. As they say, once you go Mac, you’ll never go back… hehe!
Soon, you’ll be making movies and music on your macbook. It’s actually easier to use than Windows once you get the hang of it. Definitely, one Mac is worth 2 Windows… hehehe… sobrang prejudiced talaga.
sexy mom? they have been in scout rallos for ages! something like the late 80s. and Toe, i know you know all those features—i saw your MacBook in your blog! and i told myself, one day, i will have one, too!
ba // May 11, 2007 at 12:11 am

sexy mom: Sexy Mom—Sexy Mac go together. how sweet!
MrsPartyGirl // May 11, 2007 at 2:51 am
it seems like everyone i know (and just gotten to know, like you :D) are all switching to the mac. my bestfriend has been hounding me, like forever, to switch to a macbook and i’ve managed to laugh it off every time. but now that my vaio has started acting up on me, in a fit, i’m sometimes just so tempted to throw it against the wall.
anyway, i also love the mac commercials on tv (here in the US), they’re quite funny but sorta true i guess (especially now that vista’s out, that OS is a nightmare!).
have fun with your new macbook, i’m sure you’ll enjoy it
sexy mom: yah, it seems like everyone wants to go in the same direction. you don’t have to throw your vaio, like i didn’t throw ours away. fate will take its course, and soon you will have your mac (vaio may be more expensive, but mac is more chic).
Shari // May 11, 2007 at 8:57 am
Sexxxxyyyyyyyyy! An unfortunate event that had a lucky outcome. A MacBook is definitely worth drooling over. Gee wiz, I can’t even afford a laptop, much less a MacBook. Boo me.
Kyels // May 11, 2007 at 10:35 am
Tita, you rock!
Mac computers are really awesome but they’re expensive! I’ve always wanted one too but I cannot afford one yet … Nyahaha!
Enjoy the Mac!

hi Dine,
Wow, i am glad you didn’t settle for anything less. My daughter compared it to a cadillac. She loves her Mac and I am sure you will have fun with it, too. Boy, that baby though is expensive.
tofubaby // May 11, 2007 at 12:18 pm
That’s great! Like Shari, I am drooling over iMacs for a long time now. We’ll see.
Enjoy the new Mac!
tofubaby // May 11, 2007 at 12:55 pm
Oh! I forgot. Seksi mo talaga SM!
Rach // May 11, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Hi Dine. Congrats on your new MacBook. It’s so sleek and modern. I think SexyMac suits it perfectly.
I wish I could have one as well but since it’s out of the question (out of the budget), an LCD would make me happy for now. This huge monitor in front of me is bad for my eyes.
Wow, you had it blessed. Now that’s a good start. Hope you and SexyMac will be great partners for many great years ahead.
jangelo // May 11, 2007 at 3:48 pm

vic // May 11, 2007 at 10:30 pm
wow, what a sexy mac for a sexy mom. not sure if i know how to fiddle a mac, (I have a hard time with windows)but it would have been perfect here in TO (toronto) for the whole city is a hot spot now, courtesy of Toronto Hydro, our power supplier which is getting into wifi business at the consternation of mainstream providers and they are giving it for free introductory promotions and it very cheap after the promotion.
But most prefer their blackberries, which is also an Ontario based company, RIM..

maki // May 11, 2007 at 11:47 pm
congrats sexy mom to your sexy mac!
I’m laptop hunting too. Does Ynzal give student discounts for all?
I’m currently hunting for a new laptop. My mom wants it to be a Toshiba but a mac would be helpful and handy..hehe

Hey sexy mom, you’re really bringing sexy back!
I started pricing Macbooks yesterday (we have a company discount) when I read your entry. And then I thought…wait a minute, am I not supposed to be cutting back on expenses? HAHA.
